With summer right around the corner, it’s time to get your RV ready to beat the heat. One of the biggest challenges you may face this season is condensation. Luckily for you, at Meridian RV, we’ve created the following guide with ways to manage camper condensation. Sources of Moisture
A big part of managing RV condensation is knowing what the sources of excess moisture are. There are a variety of ways that moisture enters your camper. This could be from the steam from the shower or the humidity in the air. The problem occurs when moisture cools and condenses into water and begins to drip into the fabrics and frame of your rig. Excess condensation can be dangerous because it can lead to mold and mildew buildup.
Keep in mind that you can take some steps to reduce the effects of condensation in your camper. If you’re showering, make sure to have a vent open and the fan on to pull the steam out of the rig. Cooking is also a major source of moisture, so make sure to open up a vent in the kitchen to let the steam escape.
Keeping Condensation at Bay
Thes best way to fight condensation this summer is to try out different strategies.
Dehumidifiers
One device you may want to use to combat humidity in your RV is a dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers are built to get water out of the air. They condense and collect water into a small container which you then empty. Depending on the size of your rig, you may want to invest in multiple dehumidifiers.
Power-Free Condensation Solutions
If you don’t have any electricity to spare, you can look into some power-free dehumidifying solutions. If you want to avoid condensation, simply opening up a vent can go a long way. You may also want to get some desiccant crystals which will absorb water in the air passively. Keep in mind that you’ll need to swap out the crystals occasionally.
Measuring Moisture
You may be wondering: how do I measure moisture in my camper? Pick up a hygrometer! Hygrometers are affordable devices that can measure the humidity of the air. A comfortable humidity is generally between 30 and 50 percent. Knowing what the humidity levels in your RV are will help you know when it’s time to manage condensation.
We hope these tips help you stay cool inside your camper during all of your summer road trips! If you want any more advice or you’re looking to buy a new rig, contact Meridian RV.
